Becchio scores to even the tie, minutes after Jermaine Beckford misses a penalty.

Despite going on to eventually lose the tie, this goal is one of my all time favourites. I have never heard such a noise generated at Elland Road before or after.

Sadly the owner of the blog I am currently writing for, ClarkeOneNil.co.uk, has made the decision to close down the site, coinciding with the successful takeover of Leeds United.

This means that I won’t be posting as much of my writing for a while, certainly not til the New Year. In the meantime, whilst I’m looking for a new Leeds blog to write for, I’ll just be posting some of my favourite Leeds United images.

Here is my farewell article for ClarkeOneNil, which you can still read on the site here until the end of the year.

Merry Christmas, and I hope to be back writing soon.

It seems like every day a new Leeds United blog pops up on the internet, and it’s great to see we have so many passionate fans eager to offer their opinions on the club. With the football blog and fanzine now almost vital to a club’s supporters, it’s a great shame to see one of Leeds United’s most important blogs hanging up it’s boots.

ClarkeOneNil may well be remembered for dividing opinion, but the site has also done a lot for keeping focus at times when distraction from the significant issues could have been all too easy. I welcome the new “Leeds Fans United” scheme proposed by LUST, and have stated for a long time in my column on this site that one of the biggest problems at the club was the disillusionment of our fan base. What I do hope is that it still allows room for blogs or public forums such as ClarkeOneNil to present an alternative opinion.

I’ve seen a lot of anger directed at C.O.N. and particularly Michael during my spell writing for the blog, which is sad. I understand why ClarkeOneNil isn’t the blog of choice for most fans, but the aim of the site was never to win popularity contests. Taken for what it was supposed to be, “Leeds United through a Hardened Glare”, it surely must be appreciated. It was this ethos that I based my writing around; presenting the facts as they were, however unfavourable or distressing. I personally didn’t agree with some things that other contributors were writing, and occasionally, things I was writing myself, but as I mentioned, I think as football fans it’s important to consider the alternative.

ClarkeOneNil will certainly be missed in the Leeds United blogosphere, and I’d like to think that others will help fill the gap left by the site, whether that is an existing blog or somebody new. I hope the readership has enjoyed my contributions, and I will be looking to ply my trade elsewhere. I’d also like to thank Michael for giving me the opportunity to write for the site (and then a second one after that Alan Smith piece…).

Good luck to my fellow contributors and here’s to better times at Leeds United.
